Butterstone: The striations of the stone are a blue-green algae known as Cyanobacteria. This is a soft stone, excellent for carving. An awsome specimen! Shown above is an 'Archaen Butterstone' from the Greenstone Belt of Southern Africa. Upon close examination, one can see the layers of the green fossilized algae. This early life predated even the Dinosaurs by 2500 Million years!
